US: Automakers might have to make diagnostic data public


A new bill being proposed by the Congress sets new rules for vehicle manufacturers. Anyone that makes a vehicle that’s introduced in the US would have to provide information, tools, and equipment to owners and service providers on a non-discriminatory basis. On the information side, this includes all the safety and service bulletins and the data needed to diagnose, repair, or replace existing equipment.
