eCall could be delayed by 3 years due to EU hesitation

An article on the Czech website quotes an official from the Fire Rescue Service (of Czech Republic) saying that no one can tell what the future of eCall is, not even the European Commission.

The eCall system was supposed to be up and running across Europe by 2009. Whilst Czech Republic has shown enormous interest towards eCall, several other Member States are still not convinced. As these countries have not signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), there is a long delay in the deployment of eCall.

If eCall is made mandatory, cost of new vehicles might go up by 150 Euros.
