Nokia plans to launch a Chinese version of its Internet Ovi Store in the China market by the end of 2009 as China’s mobile Internet service market is set for robust growth in the coming years, according to sources at Nokia Greater China.
Mobile Internet users in China currently total about 350 million, compared to a total of 700 million handset subscribers, pointed out other market sources.
However, mobile Internet users in China are expected to increase by 150 million in the next one-and-a-half year due to the implementation of 3G networks, the market sources quoted data from In-Stat China as indicating.
China 3G service providers China Telecom and China Mobile have both announced plans to build up their respective WLAN hot-spot networks, apparently preparing to grab a greater share of the emerging mobile Internet service market, the sources commented.
With 180 million Nokia handset users in China at the moment, Nokia also foresees strong demand for access to Internet throught mobile phones in the future, noted the sources at Nokia Greater China.
