France on Mobile TV: act now or lose frequency

To save the future of Mobile TV in France, the Secretary of State, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet proposes a system (development) in two stages.

As a first step, the telecom operators should take responsibility and invest in Mobile TV. Following this, both network operators and TV channel publishers will be involved in Mobile TV.

September 30 has been set as a deadline for the involved parties to come to an agreement. Failing this, the Government threatens to allocate the frequency for other purposes. However, this threat is not expected to have a significant impact on network operators, who are not interested in investing on Mobile TV for the next two years.
