Navigon adds more free updates to its iPhone app

The new, free software update includes the Text-to-Speech, iPod Control and Location Sharing functions as well as automatic switching between day and night mode.

The NAVIGON Text-to-Speech function (provided by SVOX) reads out street names, allowing the driver to concentrate fully on the road ahead – and not on looking for hidden signs with street names that are difficult to read and divert attention from driving.

Seamless integration of the iPod Control means it is simple and quick to set up the required playlist on the integrated iPod while navigating. Simply select the iPod symbol on the map displayed to select playlists, titles and albums with ease, listen to songs again or leave it to the device to generate a random selection of songs. Another touch takes the user back to navigation. When the navigation software is making a voice announcement, the volume of the music currently playing is smoothly turned down.
The Location Sharing function ensures entertainment at the destination. Select an address or a POI such as a restaurant or museum, for example, and the destination can simply be emailed to friends and acquaintances. If the recipient also has the MobileNavigator, they simply click on a link with the address or special destination in the email to reach the meeting point via the fastest route – the navigation software starts automatically when the link is activated and guides the user directly to the destination. This means users can exchange positions and destinations with each other simply and conveniently.
