DevToaster has released REV2.0, an application with an OBD kit that can transfer diagnostic information from the car to the iPhone using Wi-Fi.
Rev gives access to lots of vehicle metrics, communicating via an OBD-II device to extract highly accurate, real-time data directly from the vehicle’s ECU. These metrics include:
- Vehicle Speed
- RPM
- Fuel Consumption
- Engine Coolant Temp
- Fuel Pressure
- Calculated Engine Load
- Throttle Position
- Intake Manifold Pressure
- Air Intake Temp
- Timing Advance
- Mass Air Flow
- Fuel Level
- Barometric Pressure
- EVAP System Vapor Pressure
- Fuel Trim
The iPhone app costs $40 and the OBD-II connector costs $150, but the company is working to reduce this cost.
Note: Currently, this product is marketed as a racing car app for drivers to understand and improve the engine’s performance. However in the future, similar applications on Smartphones can be used to provide eco-driving tips, remote diagnostics and much more.
