T-Mobile in Germany announces new tethering options

T-Mobile started allowing tethering in September. Tethering allows users to connect their phone to a laptop via USB or Bluetooth and use the phone as a modem to access the internet.

The current package costs €20 on top of the phone plan (the least being €8 a month). This allows the user to use up to 3 GB worth of data by using the phone as a modem.

Now, T-Mobile has announced a ‘Small’ version, that allows users to pay €5 for 100 MB of data. A minimum 6 month contract applies.

Note: If network operators start allowing tethering on phones more freely in the future (currently too restrictive or too expensive), there is a potential for vehicle manufacturers to offer connected navigation services by using the driver’s mobile phone as a modem to connect to the internet.
