China FAW and China Unicom to launch 3G-based telematics

China Unicom has signed an agreement with Chinese carmaking giant China FAW Group on January 13, 2010 on a strategic partnership in the 3G-based telematics sector.

China Unicom and China FAW will mainly cooperate in the development and provision of remote diagnosis, navigation, news, entertainment, communications, and call center services via the Chinese telecoms operator’s WCDMA network. Besides, the two companies are likely to consider promoting such services depending on their user bases and distribution networks.

The cooperation is expected to accelerate the spread of telecoms technologies in various types of FAW-branded cars as well as sharpen China FAW’s competitive edges in the automobile market.
