QNAP Systems is a leading manufacturer of Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers. The company has developed a smartphone app called QMobile, which allows users to connect to servers (NASs) at home (or potentially anywhere in the cloud) and stream content such as music, pictures and videos straight to their handsets via an internet connection.

The QMobile app is already available for Apple devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) and QNAP has recently launched a beta version of the free app for Android users as well.

One of the main advantages of such a solution is that even low-cost smartphones with little built-in memory can provide users access to unlimited data stored on a remote server. Unfortunately, this would mean that the user would most probably require an unlimited data plan, which could be very expensive.
