A new low-cost app from imaGinyze turns the iphone into an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), capable of imitating some of the features found on high-end cars today.

The app uses the phone’s built-in camera to display the road ahead. imaGinyze’s software then processes this image to detect road obstacles, lane markings etc and warns the driver of any potential hazards with audio and visual notifications.

The phone has to be mounted on the windscreen in the ‘landscape’ mode with a good view of the road for the app to work properly.

The company has announced that the app can detect and warn about lane changes, vehicles ahead, and distance to obstacles similar to built-in systems found in higher-end luxury cars.

It is available in the App Store for $2.99.
