Navmii launches free iPhone navi app with Open Street Maps

Navmii has announced the launch of its new community-based navigation product, NavFree.

NavFree is a free to download GPS/Satellite Navigation application for iPhone and iPad available from iTunes.

NavFree is now available for UK & Republic of Ireland from the iTunes store and will quickly be rolled out for continental European countries and USA States.

A version of Navfree for Android will also be released shortly.

Users can search for an address by postcode, city, street or house and are instantly routed there with full voiced directions.

NavFree will re-route if users take a wrong turn and provides information on the journey distance, estimated time of arrival, points of interest and live Google search for local facilities.

Users of NavFree will be able to get regular map updates completely free of charge.

Users can also add functions like speed cameras, local petrol prices and traffic information to NavFree by buying these services within the NavFree app.

Peter Atalla, CEO of Navmii said: “.. Mapping is provided by OpenStreetMap and is stored on the iPhone, making NavFree faster and more accurate than other free navigation services. What’s more, because the maps are stored on the phone, there are no mobile data charges – just high quality, no cost navigation.”
