Clarion licenses RealVNC software to implement Terminal Mode

RealVNC has announced that Clarion has licensed its VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive to implement Terminal Mode.

Terminal Mode is the recently announced CE4A (the German Automotive industry working group comprising Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Volkswagen) and Nokia open standard, based on VNC.

The VNC solution permits mobile devices to be automatically detected, accessed and controlled through the head unit touch-screen, bezel keys or steering wheel controls as they enter the vehicle.

Renowned for its pursuit of the ultimate human-machine interface, Clarion has used its wealth of experience in automotive infotainment systems to integrate the VNC Viewer into its next-generation HMI design, embedded within the vehicle head unit.

With advanced connectivity to mobile devices, the solution also provides mechanisms for policing application access to minimize driver distraction and ensure safe operation is always maintained, whilst offering the driver the highest quality experience.

VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive is an OEM package that supports a range of in-vehicle embedded operating systems including Linux, Windows Automotive, CE, QNX, Qt, Android and other proprietary operating systems.

RealVNC continues to provide cross-platform solutions with all leading mobile devices supported, including Windows Mobile, Symbian, Blackberry, iPhone, Android, WebOS and Linux.
