At CES, QNX is showcasing the latest BMW ConnectedDrive system, powered by QNX software technology, which is the first to give drivers access to email messages from Bluetooth-connected BlackBerry smartphones. The messages appear on the BMW iDrive display when the car is stationary, but drivers can also listen to messages, especially when the car is in motion, simply by pressing a button.
The integration of email and text messaging into BMW ConnectedDrive leverages the new Bluetooth Message Access Protocol (MAP), which is currently available only on select BlackBerry smartphones. Like previous BMW ConnectedDrive features, these new capabilities are designed to make using smartphones in BMW vehicles safer and more convenient. (Read more here.)

Automakers and Tier One suppliers using the QNX CAR Application Platform will soon have the ability to offer connected navigation and search, providing drivers with 3D turn-by-turn navigation and voice/audio prompts, along with real-time information like up-to-date maps, business listings, local places, traffic information, gas prices and more.
