Toyota Entune partners: Harman, QNX, Nuance, UIEvolution & INRIX Traffic (via phone)

At CES, several companies have announced their partnership with Toyota for developing the new Entune connected infotainment system:

Hardware supplier: HARMAN

The scalable, upgradeable Entune system blends advanced automotive navigation with the connectivity and entertainment features of the latest-generation smart mobile phones. Drivers will have the ability to make hands-free phone calls, control music from a variety of sources, and interact with the navigation system — all by using simple voice commands. An advanced text-to-speech function can also read incoming SMS text messages verbally to the driver, even translating common slang and text symbols.

Software platform: QNX

The QNX CAR Application Platform has been chosen as the software foundation for the Toyota Entune multimedia system. QNX CAR is a production-ready, pre-integrated software stack that helps automakers and tier one automotive suppliers reduce the cost and effort of building connected multimedia systems.

Smartphone integration solution: UIEvolution

Entune is powered by UIEngine, part of UIEvolution’s app Experience Management platform. UIEvolution delivers app experiences across smart devices and multiple screens (mobile, TV, auto, tablets and more).

UIE’s technology creates a simplified, connected app experience for Toyota drivers. They can access and manage vehicle information, select third-party apps and their own entertainment directly from the in-dash display screen.

Traffic info partner: INRIX

Toyota Entune leverages the customer’s mobile phone to access INRX’s real-time traffic information, alert drivers to potential traffic causing delays along their route and recommend the best way to navigate around them. By utilizing conversational voice recognition and easy-to-use in-vehicle controls, rather than touching their mobile phone, drivers can safely connect to INRIX’s real-time traffic information to determine the best route, travel time and ETA. Toyota Entune will be available in select vehicles starting later this year.
