ADAC has reached 240,000 downloads of its iPhone bCall application for localised roadside assistance in about 4 weeks time. During the first 4 weeks of service, more than 4,000 requests for roadside assistance were addressed to ADAC via the iPhone app.
ADAC uses the ARC Europe Telematics Platform (ATP) for handling the localised roadside assistance requests.
The experience of the ARC Europe automobile clubs shows that callers don’t know their exact location in 86% of assistance request cases.
This can result in the caller walking to the nearest traffic sign or road marker, which is particularly dangerous. On motorways the life expectancy of a pedestrian is less than 20 minutes.
In the event of an accident or breakdown or simply in case of a flat tyre on the side of the road, the use a localised application to require assistance could make a difference.
ADAC´s bCAll application using ARC Europe´s Telematics Platform enhances safety on the road and provides improved member service. Also useful information, as the location of the person in need, is provided to the roadside emergency.
The ARC Europe Telematics Platform is available to ADAC and all the ARC Europe automobile clubs , but also to all ARC Europe B2B clients. Such mobile apps have also been launched by the AA in the UK, ÖAMTC in Austria, and other ARC Europe clubs across Europe generating hundreds of thousands of downloads already.
