Toyota has begun production on the 2022 Toyota Tundra, a range of vehicles that will introduce the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) under the Tundra name. The 2022 Tundra Hybrid will be produced alongside other models in the range at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX) in San Antonio.

It follows TMMTX’s 2019 investment of $391 million to prepare for production of the 2022 Tundra, pushing its cumulative investment to more than $3.1 billion. The investment helped Toyota expand the facility by 141,000 feet ahead of the Tundra entering production. It also facilitated new manufacturing processes and technologies

While a release date for the hybrid version of the new has not yet been confirmed, Toyota confirmed that it will begin deliveries of it in early 2022.
