Toyota has provided key insights into its forthcoming bZ4X SUV ahead of its launch in Spring 2022, detailing its key performance statistics, featured technologies, and pricing. The electric SUV will be offered in two trims, XLE and Limited, with the choice between FWD and AWD drivetrains for both. Pricing will start at $42,000 for the 2023 bZ4X XLE FWD model, which has an estimated range of up to 252 miles.

Based on the firm’s dedicated e-TNGA platform, the bZ4X is capable of producing 201 hp in its FWD form, with a 0 – 60 mph (0 – 96.5 km/h) acceleration time of 7.1 seconds, and 214 in its AWD form, which can go from 0 – 60 mph (0 – 96.5 km/h) in 6.5 seconds. Sitting above the XLE FWD, the XLE AWD model supports a 228-mile range.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy rating for the XLE FWD is 131 MPGe city, 107 MPGe highway and 119 MPGe combined. The EPA-estimated fuel economy rating for XLE AWD is 114 MPGe city, 94 MPGe highway and 104 MPGe combined.

The bZ4X’s lithium-ion battery can be charged with 120V and 240V AC chargers and is compatible with DC fast-chargers, although its maximum charging capacity has not been confirmed. All models are equipped with a Combined Charging System socket, which allows for both home and public charging. When using the 6.6 kW onboard Level 2 charger, it can charge from low to full in around 9 hours. All bZ4X customers, by purchase or lease, can benefit from a year of free, unlimited, charging at all EVgo-owned, and operated, public charging stations across the U.S.

Inside the XLE Model, a 12.3-inch widescreen hosts the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, which can be controlled through touch and voice activation controls. In addition to incorporating the EV’s key connectivity, infotainment, and convenience features, the system can also add further features through OTA updates. Upgrading to the Limited trim provides users with access to Toyota’s Digital Key, a feature of the Remote Connect service package. With it, owners can share their vehicle with friends and family through the Toyota App.

As standard, the system supports Bluetooth connectivity for up to two devices as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Users can also benefit from playback through the system’s HD Radio and USB data. For user seeking an enhanced audio experience, the bZ4X comes available with a nine-speaker JBL Premium Audio system, which includes an 8-channel HiD 800-watt amplifier and 9-inch subwoofer.

The hub of the cockpit is positioned around a shared center console that provides additional storage for a smartphone and available wireless charging. The accessible USB ports (A and C) work similarly to offer power and connection points in convenient locations.

In addition to these standard features, a SiriusXM Platinum Plan 3-month trial subscription is offered alongside a complimentary three-year trial to the OEM’s Drive Connect package. The premium feature package enables access to the OEM’s Intelligent Assistant, Cloud Navigation, and Destination Assist services. Intelligent Assistant detects voice commands, like “Hey Toyota”, to control some vehicle functionality – including the bZ4X’s navigation system, HVAC controls, and more. Cloud Navigation, the available onboard navigation solution, utilizes the cloud to download the latest available map, traffic and routing information. To ensure users have the most up-to-date search capabilities, POI search is provided by Google’s POI data. Destination Assist provides access to 24/7 live agent assistance to locate the next destination.

Each bZ4X comes with a host of standard Connected Services. Safety Connect includes an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator and Collision Assistance with a 1-year trial service. Service Connect gives drivers the capability to receive Vehicle Health Reports, Maintenance Alerts and reminders with a 3-year trial.

A similarly available Wi-Fi Connect subscription offers 4G AT&T connectivity for up to five devices. Wi-Fi Connect also enables the new Integrated Streaming feature, allowing users to link separate Apple Music and Amazon Music subscriptions to the vehicle for onboard control.

Through Toyota’s smartphone app, users can control some vehicle functionality through the Remote Connect Service, which is provided on purchase as a three-year trial. Users can activate headlights, the horn, buzzer, unlock the rear hatch, and start the vehicle. The app’s remote climate features can adjust in-cabin temperature controls, including remotely activating the available seat heaters/ventilators, steering wheel heater and defroster. It also allows the user to schedule a specific time to remotely activate these controls in a daily routine.

Remote Charging capabilities are also included with Remote Connect on the bZ4X, which includes the ability to check charging status, start or stop charging with a vehicle that is already plugged in, and edit charging schedules. Here, the app can also assist users in finding charging stations located near the user or the nearest charging station along their route.
