Ahead of its September launch, Kia Europe has shared new information about its upcoming XCeed line of compact crossovers. Among the enhancements the 2022 range will receive include an expanded interior with new infotainment technologies and a new GT-line trim.

Within the 2022 range, customers will also have a broad variety of choice between powertrains. Here, they will able to choose from mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, petrol and diesel versions as well as the GT-line specification, which offers a 201 horsepower (204 ps) gasoline engine.

In providing sustainable mobility options, Kia has ushered in the XCeed PHEV for this new vehicle generation. The variant is capable of delivering an all-electric range of 30 miles (48 kilometers), equivalent to 37 miles (60 kilometers) of city driving. The OEM confirmed that other fuel-efficient powertrains, such as turbocharged engines and mild-hybrid systems, will also be available.

Inside the new XCeed, a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system sits at the center of its infotainment setup. Among its key standard features are Bluetooth multi-connection, which enables occupants to connect two mobile devices at once, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. Depending on their vehicle specification, XCeed users can also choose between a 5.0-inch DAB-radio or an 8.0-inch audio display touchscreen that features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Drivers can also opt for a fully-digital 12.3-inch Supervision instrument cluster that benefits from dynamic graphical themes that adapt to their selected driving mode (Eco, Normal, or Sport). Vehicle and engine speed dials are displayed in 1920 x 780 resolution, while a multi-function display communicates turn-by-turn navigation instructions, audio information, in-depth trip information, vehicle diagnostics alerts, and pop-up notifications linked to the car’s ADAS technologies.

The vehicle’s wider infotainment system works to provide further comfort. Here, a JBL Premium audio system with Clari-Fi technology, dual-zone air-conditioning, heated electric folding door mirrors, a heated steering wheel, a heated windscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats work to elevate the core user experience. For front and rear passengers, the new XCeed also provides USB Type-C ports for fast-charging electronics such as a smartphone or laptop on the move.

The lower portion of the instrument panel is equipped with a set of touch-sensitive buttons, dials and switches that help control various vehicle functions – including audio volume, heating and ventilation. Kia advised that the controls had been redesigned since the last vehicle generation to minimize distraction when making quick changes to the in-vehicle cabin environment.

In bringing the user’s digital footprint into the new XCeed, Kia confirmed it would support third-party integrations with Google and Apple’s calendar apps. Events scheduled by users in their smartphone’s diary will automatically appear on the crossover’s audiovisual display. If a destination has been saved within a meeting invitation, it can be used to start navigation from inside the vehicle.

The new XCeed’s technology offering benefits further from the latest version of Kia Connect, the OEM’s premium connected service package with Kia Live services. Accessible through the in-car touchscreen or through the Kia Connect mobile app for iOS and Android, it uses a proprietary eSIM to retrieve and update live data while driving.

The card can retrieve various types of data, including live traffic information, weather forecasts and POI data. It is also capable of retrieving several data types related to potential on- and off-street parking including price, location, and availability. The Kia Connect app, on the other hand, allows users to plan journeys in advance – sending navigation data to the XCeed from their smartphone. The app can also pinpoint the vehicle’s location through GPS in the event the user struggles to find it in a large car park or unfamiliar surroundings.

Much like prior models in the Ceed family, the new XCeed will be manufactured at Kia’s production facility in Zilina, Slovakia and be supplied with the OEM’s seven-year, 150,000 kilometer warranty. While Kia confirmed that sales of the new XCeed would begin across Europe in September 2022, a more precise release date has not yet been provided.
