CATL and the BMW Group have announced a multi-year agreement on the supply of cylindrical battery cells. The cells supplied by CATL in the partnership will power new EVs built on the Group’s NEUE KLASSE platform from 2025.

Over the course of their partnership, CATL will provide the BMW Group with new cylindrical battery cells, which measure at a standard diameter of 46 millimeters. These will be produced at two of CATL’s forthcoming battery plants located in China and Europe, each of which will reach a production capacity of up to 20 GWh. This capacity will exclusively be dedicated to those cells designated for use by BMW.

The agreement builds on the two companies’ shared commitment to building a sustainable, circular, battery value chain. In producing its high-performance batteries and battery cells, CATL will primarily utilize renewable energies and secondary materials. Cobalt and lithium used in the process will be sourced from certified mines.
