Lexus has detailed the featured technologies and pricing structure of its 2023 NX crossover, which provides the Toyota brand’s customers with a wide choice of powertrains.
Across these models, the Lexus Interface multimedia system hosts the new NX’s suite of advanced technologies, including wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a voice assistant, a cloud-navigation system with Google Points of Interest and OTA updates. These standard features are offered alongside various optional technologies such as an available Digital Key and a wireless charger for compatible smart devices.
Inside, a standard 9.8-inch touchscreen supplies these features to the occupants, while an optional, 14-inch touchscreen includes a three-year trial for Drive Connect services; a package that bundles location guidance with Cloud Navigation, Destination Assist, and Intelligent Assistant.
User Profiles work to enable the driver’s personalized settings and can be kept securely in the cloud, allowing them to be accessed in other vehicles equipped with the Lexus Interface. Once a profile is created in the brand’s smartphone app (available for iOS and Android devices), a Bluetooth handheld device, smart key or manual login can be used to access it.
The crossover’s Voice Assistant is activated through a voice command or by pushing a button on the steering wheel and provides a natural way for users to interact with Lexus Interface. It takes advantage of dual microphones, enhanced noise-cancellation, seat detection and speaker location capabilities, to enable a voice-first approach – allowing front seat occupants a new way to access and configure media, phone and vehicle settings such as climate control.
Available through a Drive Connect subscription, the vehicle’s available Intelligent Assistant expands upon the standard Assistant’s capabilities. The upgraded assistant allows its users to activate weather and location-based notifications, including address and POI searches with navigation. When paired with Wi-Fi Connect, the assistant offers interaction with integrated audio streaming functionality.
The similarly available Digital Key extends the User Profile feature, allowing customers to lock/unlock, and start/stop the 2023 LX through their smartphone (when within Bluetooth proximity). With Remote Connect services activated, the user can also share their Digital Key with up to seven more users, provided they are registered on the Lexus app.
The Lexus Interface Cloud Navigation system features 100% cloud capability and integrated Google POI data, allowing for faster and more precise directions and mapping. The route and location guidance with Cloud Navigation is included with the aforementioned three-year Drive Connect subscription, as is the Destination Assist and Intelligent Assistant.
OTA updates offer real-time updates for mapping, and media experiences. The cloud-based, native navigation is also available to occupants with or without a network connection. Offline mode is designed to detect when the vehicle is near or entering an area with low connectivity and can download applicable maps and services in advance.
At launch, the 2023 NX will be offered in four variants – the NX 350 and 250, powered by gas, the 350h, a hybrid, and the 450h+, a PHEV. Within this range, the NX 250 is offered in FWD and AWD configurations, while the other models offer AWD by default.
The 450h+ model has an estimated 36-mile range on electric power only, made possible by its high-capacity lithium-ion battery. Lexus has said that the car’s EV drive system achieves an output equivalent to a 2.0-liter engine, for an EPA-estimated combined 84 MPGe. When paired with the hybrid transaxle, a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine enables an estimated 6.0 second 0-60 time.
A high-output, high-efficiency system designed to reduce power loss when converting from AC power to DC power results in faster charging times. Using the maximum charging current of 240V, the Lexus NX plug-in hybrid electric can be recharged in approximately 2.5 hours when equipped with the optional 6.6 kW Expedited Onboard Charger. With the standard 3.3 kW onboard charger, a full charge can take around 4.5 hours.
Pricing for the 2023 NX starts from $39,755 for the FWD version of the NX 250, with its AWD counterpart seeing a price increase to $41,355. Further along, the NX 350 starts from $43,515; the 350h from $43,105; and the NX 450h+ from $57,705. These prices, together, include a $1,150 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
