In aiming to reduce CO2 emissions while increasing the uptake of e-mobility, SIXT and BYD have agreed to enter a long-term partnership.

Initially, the collaboration will involve Sixt ordering thousands of BEVs from BYD for use across the service’s European consumer base from Q4 2022. Starting for customers in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the UK, Sixt will be the first car rental company in Europe to offer BYD’s vehicles. The company confirmed that the first BYD model to be offered under its service will be the ATTO 3.

Over the next six years, Sixt will look to purchase a further 100,000 EVs from the Chinese automaker. Over the course of their partnership, the companies will explore potential co-operation opportunities in different regions around the world.

For Sixt, the partnership will help increase the share of electrified vehicles in its fleet, with the company aiming to increase this share up to 90% before the end of the decade. Elsewhere, Sixt is establishing its own charging infrastructure, while expanding its mobile app and ONE mobility platform to a single sign-on for many public charging points. It also plans to make its stations and branches CO2 neutral by the end of 2023.
