The BMW Group and AWS (Amazon Web Services) have announced a strategic collaboration that will see the companies jointly develop new cloud technologies that work to harness the full data potential of future vehicle generations. Both companies will cooperate further on the development of commercial off-the-shelf cloud solutions for securely managing vehicle data.

BMW’s new collaboration with AWS is its latest with the company, which it began working with in 2015. As in its previous collaborations, BMW has confirmed that it will retain control of data. AWS will provide the OEM with cloud infrastructure and services, but will not access any data generated by its connected vehicle fleet.

With AWS’ expertise, the BMW Group also hopes to aid the development of a self-service portal for its developers working on data-driven improvement of customer functions. Here, AWS services and infrastructure will support the usability of this portal, allowing BMW Group engineers and data staff to focus on the content and quality of connected vehicle data.
