EVgo has EVgo ReNew – a new maintenance program designed to ensure stations across its U.S. charging network meet its quality and technology standards. Through ReNew, EVgo plans to replace, upgrade, or retire hundreds of stations through 2023 – enhancing availability and building range confidence are cited as two of its key goals.
ReNew is comprised of six core pillars: Prevention, Diagnostics, Rapid Response, Analysis, Resilience, and Continuous Customer Service. These will direct the program’s activities, such as the ramping up of in-person preventative health checks of chargers; improving system monitoring, diagnostic, and recovery tools; replacing legacy equipment; and retiring any faulty chargers if replacement or upgrade is impractical. The network operator confirmed that the program will build upon its existing charger maintenance work – including constant monitoring and preventative health checks at charging stations.
EVgo evaluates sites based on their historical charger performance, current and predicted user demand, technical capacity at the location, and proximity to other fast-charging stations. Where possible, the company will install new chargers at these stations which offer power levels up to 350 kW. Leveraging a combination of proprietary market analysis, data-driven insights and customer feedback, the program also identifies sites that could be decommissioned in the future. In addition to site-level analysis, EVgo will also work with its site host partners to assess charger placement, station size, power levels, and more to ensure its charging options provide an efficient, affordable, user experience.
Through the first three quarters of 2022, EVgo upgraded, replaced or removed 125 charging stalls. It is now working with its partners and site hosts to evaluate the upgrading, replacing, or removing of additional charging stalls over the course of 2023.
