TravelCenters of America (TA), a full-service travel center network, has announced an agreement with Electrify America to offer EV charging at select TA and Petro locations. While TA expects that the first stations under the agreement will be deployed in 2023, a more precise delivery window has not yet been confirmed.
The partnership will support TA’s five-year goal to install around 1,000 individual EV chargers at 200 of its locations situated along major highways. TA will purchase Electrify America’s 350 kW DC fast chargers, which the charge point operator will install, operate, and maintain through its Electrify Commercial business unit.
Electrify America will design and develop the charging stations, while obtaining permitting approvals, providing warranty and 24/7 support services, and conducting onsite maintenance. Once its chargers are operational, TA’s locations will be integrated into the Electrify America charging network, allowing customers to access and pay for charging through the operator’s smartphone app (available for iOS and Android).
While providing more charging options to their customers, TA and Electrify America will also aim to enhance the EV charging experience. Here, TA will pair its site amenities with Electrify America’s own capabilities – offering fast-charging for compatible vehicles, Plug&Charge payment technology, 24/7 customer support, and complimentary Wi-Fi access at TA locations.
