Mercedes-Benz customers can now take advantage of verified third party automobile services and applications via connected car platform company HIGH MOBILITY. Accessed through the Auto API — HIGH MOBILITY’s standardized connected car API — car data will be available to verified third party businesses that have integrated with the Berlin-based platform company. Services available to drivers and car owners will include insurance applications and electric vehicle charging as well as applications and services which make use of the vehicle status.
Working closely with HIGH MOBILITY and other collaborators, Daimler is one of the first OEMs to implement the Extended Vehicle and Neutral Server concept. This process enables external app and service companies — with the explicit consent of customers — to access car data. The Extended Vehicle process enables Daimler to provide Mercedes-Benz customers the opportunity to benefit from third-party automobile services in a secure and transparent way. For HIGH MOBILITY, the announcement offers its global community of over 2500 registered developers an opportunity to develop new services for Mercedes-Benz connected car customers in Europe.
Explicit customer consent is a key element of the Extended Vehicle concept. Mercedes-Benz customers have total control over which third-party provider they allow to access their vehicle data, and for what purpose. Transparency here is paramount. The customer must consent to access requests by third parties and are free to withdraw their consent at any time.
As a go-live collaborator for the Neutral Server, HIGH MOBILITY acts as a bridge between third-party service providers and Daimler, providing comprehensive tools and testing environments for developers to work with car data. HIGH MOBILITY offers these third party companies true-to-life car emulators as well as the Auto API; the standardized connected car API they need to build and test applications for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. However, the Auto API is not limited to just one carmaker: it allows development teams to reach numerous carmakers and, within the HIGH MOBILITY platform, work with data from multiple manufacturers after just one integration. Finally, HIGH MOBILITY’s platform offers third party providers an open registration process with transparent verification, pricing and conditions.
Accessed through HIGH MOBILITY’s standardized car API and with the consent by the customer, third party service providers can use data from Mercedes-Benz vehicles for the following use cases.
Pay-as-you-drive / Insurance / Fuel Status / Vehicle Status / Vehicle Lock Status / Electric Vehicle
