Geely has announced a new partnership with the Alibaba Group, through which the companies will jointly develop a series of digital automotive solutions.

In achieving this goal, Geely will pair its experiences with smart vehicles with Alibaba’s own digital capabilities. While digitization is a key focus of the collaboration, Geely and Alibaba will further explore areas such as cloud computing, vehicle production and sales, digital plants, autonomous driving, intelligent cockpit, mobility services, and sustainable development.

Alibaba’s cloud computing arm will work to help Geely boost the efficiency of its computing solutions. It will, for example, work with the OEM’s research institute to develop an intelligent computing center while improving its smart car services and HMI technology. It further plans to work with the automaker to build data-driven manufacturing capabilities powered by cloud-native technology and develop a digital automotive factory.

For Alibaba, the partnership will enable Tmall, its e-commerce marketplace, to begin selling vehicles. Amap (its digital map and navigation service provider), Alibaba Cloud, and Banma Network Technology (an Alibaba-backed internet-connected vehicles OS provider) will similarly integrate Geely’s smart cockpit, smart mobility, and vehicle ecology services into their user experiences.
