The Volkswagen Group’s UK arm has partnered with British energy company OVO to offer customers preferential rates and bonuses as part of an effort to drive EV uptake in the country.

From 1 July 2024, the new partnership will allow customers purchasing a Volkswagen Group-brand EV (from Audi, CUPRA, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles) to leverage OVO’s ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on among other benefits. These include OVO’s intelligent grid technology, powered by Kaluza, which unlocks a charging rate that the energy firm says is nearly four times lower than the national average.

Volkswagen’s new partnership with OVO follows the renewal of its home charging and wallbox partnership with Ohme. In adding OVO to this ecosystem, the Group and its retailers will look to support customers with an energy recommendation to ultimately complete this package of EV ownership. Under the partnership, Volkswagen Group customers will be able to charge their EV for 7 pence per kWh at home at any time.

At the same time, the partnership will also enable Volkswagen Group customers signing up to OVO to receive 10,000 free miles (more than 16,000 km), followed by 1,000 free miles (around 1,600 km) on their contract anniversary for three further years.

Current diesel and petrol car drivers considering switching to an EV could also bank thousands of electric miles to power their future EV through OVO Beyond – an ‘Energy Savings Account’ designed to reward customers planning to make the switch. Through it, an extra 50 miles (80 km), on top of the 100 EV miles (160 km) per month, can be ‘banked’ for up to 24 months if they go on to buy a new Volkswagen Group EV.
