SoundHound AI has announced that its SoundHound Chat AI voice assistant with integrated ChatGPT will feature in Peugeot, Opel, and Vauxhall vehicles across 11 European markets in 12 languages, including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

By the end of July, the company aims to extend this rollout to 17 markets, and 12 different languages. The announcement represents the latest step in the AI company’s partnership with Stellantis, having previously rolled out its chatbot in DS Automobiles vehicles across 18 countries with 13 languages.

The voice assistant will be included in Peugeot, Opel, and Vauxhall vehicles beginning July 2024. For models released prior to this date, SoundHound Chat AI with integrated ChatGPT will be available on-demand and can be delivered over-the-air. The assistant itself enables hands-free voice control for functions such as programming a route, making phone calls, or accessing real-time information such as sports scores and weather updates.

Its integration of ChatGPT extends its functionality further, allowing users to ask about a broad range of topics, from historical facts to creating stories for children, while interacting with external knowledge sources and in-vehicle controls interchangeably. Through it, a user could initially ask the assistant for the most scenic route from Paris to Bordeaux, before subsequently asking it for historic attractions along this route, which one of these attractions is closest, and the current weather conditions at the location of that attraction.
