Volkswagen has announced a new partnership with AirConsole, a multi-device gaming platform, to bring its in-car gaming experience to several Volkswagen models. In addition to the ID.7, ID.5, ID.4 and ID.3 product lines (from ID. software 4.0), AirConsole will also be available for the new Passat, Tiguan, Golf, and Golf Estate models.

Across these models, AirConsole will only be available for use when the vehicle is parked – allowing the driver and vehicle occupants to play its selection of in-vehicle games while charging or taking a break. The infotainment system’s display will host the games, while the user’s smartphone serves as the controller.

Multiplayer is also available through this feature, allowing several users, including rear passengers, to join a game using their smartphones. Volkswagen expects to launch AirConsole in select European countries from mid-September, with plans to offer more games in further European territories during late 2024, and early 2025.

To start or join a game, users must first open the AirConsole app in the vehicle, before connecting their smartphone to the vehicle by scanning a QR code on the display screen. AirConsole’s in-vehicle game scan either be played alone, or with all vehicle occupants together.
