General Motors has announced a new, GM-approved, NACS DC adapter for its EVs – allowing its customers to access more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers.

In opening up its EVs to Tesla’s charging network, the corporation is aiming to deliver faster, more convenient, charging options for current and future EV drivers. The new adapter is expected to launch first to GM customers in the United States, before reaching Canada later in 2024.

With the addition of Tesla’s Supercharger Network, GM says that its customers will now be able to access more than 231,800 public Level 2 and DC fast chargers across North America. At the same time, GM is also looking to increase this number by utilizing its various charging collaborations to support the deployment of infrastructure in communities and along heavily-traveled corridors.

For U.S. customers, the GM-approved NACS DC adapter will be available to purchase for $225 (£169 / €201) through the apps of GM’s vehicle brands (myBuick. myCadillac, myChevrolet, myGMC) available for iOS and Android devices. These same apps can also be used to locate available Tesla Superchargers, check the status of these (and more) stations, initiate a charging session, and pay for charging.

To ensure positive customer experiences, GM will leverage different suppliers to produce its approved NACS DC adapters. Each adapter has been developed to ensure that customers can sufficiently, and seamlessly, charge their GM EVs at stations that utilize the North American Charging Standard.
