SoundHound AI and Lucid Motors have launched the Lucid Assistant, a new hands-free voice assistant for the OEM’s vehicle line-up that allows customers to control many vehicle functions through a range of voice commands.
The Lucid Assistant is powered by SoundHound Chat AI, a voice platform that integrates new generative AI technologies. This integration gives drivers access to a voice assistant that aims to enhance Lucid’s in-vehicle user experience with features such as interactive knowledge discovery, real-time data, and enhanced in-vehicle controls.
Activated with the ‘Hey Lucid’ voice command, drivers and passengers can ask the assistant questions in a natural and conversational way and receive fast, accurate responses through SoundHound Chat AI. SoundHound’s proprietary technology then ensures that the assistant selects the correct response from the most appropriate domain. This could be an answer powered by generative AI, or a response from a unique source that other large language models may not be able to offer, such as real-time questions about weather, sports, and stocks.
While answering general questions, Lucid Assistant can also access the full car manual and provide answers to more specific questions on the vehicle’s functionality. Key and critical vehicle features, such as navigation, can be controlled through voice commands, while many of the assistant’s broader features and functions can be accessed without the need for a cellular connection.
When processing queries, SoundHound’s system uses a proprietary approach to reduce the risk of AI hallucinations – misleading and unpredictable responses often associated with some LLMs. The assistant is today available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, German, and Dutch, with additional languages set to roll out at a later date.
