Xpeng and the Volkswagen Group China have entered into a MoU (memorandum of understanding) for a strategic collaboration aimed at developing a super-fast EV charging network in the China region.

Under their MoU, the OEMs will jointly build more than 20,000 charging piles, spanning 420 cities in the region, that will be made available to both Xpeng and Volkswagen Group China customers. In leveraging technological advantages in high-power, liquid-cooled super-fast charging alongside the broad, complementary, coverage of both parties in the China region, they likewise intend for their customers to benefit from faster charging speeds.

In the longer term, Xpeng and Volkswagen envision their collaboration potentially extending to the development and rollout of co-branded fast charging stations in China. Here, the OEMs would aim to accelerate the expansion of their charging network, while also improving operational efficiencies.

The collaboration announced today marks the latest milestone in a broader strategic partnership between Xpeng and the Volkswagen Group. Together, the automakers plan to explore further strategic collaboration opportunities, broaden technology collaborations, and ultimately strengthen their partnership.
