JLR has announced a new partnership with Tata Communications that will aim to enable continuous connectivity and access to intelligent in-vehicle services within remote locations across 120 countries.
Leveraging Tata Communications’ MOVE platform, JLR’s upcoming medium-sized SUVs built on its EMA platform will transition between mobile networks and operators to enable consistent access to personalized connected services, such as media streaming. EMA will, likewise, enable enhanced and more secure data exchange between JLR and its vehicles, delivering more efficient OTA updates and supporting the rollout of evolving ADAS, for example.
Detailing the benefits of this new partnership, JLR highlighted that its fleet of connected vehicles generates around 2.5 TB of data every day, with half a million ECUs updated monthly, on average. Through the MOVE platform, JLR is looking to increase this data exchange and enable its engineers to harness deeper insights, monitor vehicle performance in real-time, and more promptly roll out updates to improve vehicle maintenance and servicing, altogether reducing costs for JLR and its customers.
Those customers will benefit similarly from robust wireless communication technologies to help track vehicles in demanding environments; tailored connections that help them stay connected to their preferred applications and features, regardless of their location and streamlined connectivity plans accessible through a single provider.
Beyond its partnership with Tata Communications, JLR confirmed that is exploring the integration of low orbit satellites into the company’s wider connected vehicle model.
