Polestar has announced both a range of new software features and a complimentary hardware upgrade for customers of its Polestar 3 model.

In the latest OTA software update for its EV, Polestar is adding features such as walk-away locking and digital key functionality for select devices. The new digital key functionality allows for a smartphone to lock, unlock, or start the vehicle, with the phone itself able to be left in the user’s pocket. Polestar confirmed that this functionality can be shared across different platforms.

In terms of hardware, the model year 2026 Polestar 3 will be the first to feature the Nvidia DRIVE AGX Orin processor, an upgrade from the Nvidia DRIVE AGX Xavier processor featured in the EV today. Aimed at providing customers with greater computing power, the upgrade will notably be offered to all existing Polestar 3 customers for free at a Polestar authorized service point. Here, customers will be contacted once the Nvidia Drive AGX Orin process is available to be fitted.

While detailing these upgrades, Polestar also announced that it will be one of the first OEMs (alongside its parent company, Volvo) to roll out apps under Google’s Car Ready Mobile Apps program. Through it, Google is aiming to help developers more easily distribute large screen optimized mobile apps to in-vehicle displays that can be accessed while the vehicle is parked. Among the apps added to the Play Store through the program are Farm Heroes Saga and F1 TV, with these apps and several more currently available in the Google Play Store on the Polestar 2. These apps are expected to roll out on both the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 later on in 2025.
